A representative payee is a person or an organization appointed by the Social Security Administration to receive the Social Security or SSI benefits for anyone who can’t manage or direct the management of his or her benefits.
As Representative Payee, our main duties are to use the benefits to pay for the current and future needs of the beneficiary, and properly save any benefits not needed to meet current needs.
We also keep records of expenses and provide reports to the Social Security Administration when requested of how the benefits have been used or saved.
We only take on this job when there are other assets or income from the person that can be utilized to cover our services. We cannot use the Social Security benefits to cover these fees.
